In San Antonio - and I would think elsewhere in Texas too - the iconic 'lone star' is used ubiquitously to decorate fences, sidewalks, guardrails...you name it. As symbols go, it's pretty tough to beat; universally recognized and easy to replicate (any five year old can draw it). Here are a few examples.
