Chicago in the summer

This unusual photograph if a close up the 'Cloud Gate' Sculpture in Millenium Park. It's a huge jelly bean shaped sculpture finished in stainless steel. Busied person in Chicago is the guy who has to wipe of the finger prints. If you look hard you can see the photographers reflection - right on the vertical centre line about 1/3 up from the bottom.

Chicago in the summer

On a warm summer night baseball beckons in most American cities. This is a panorama shot from US Cellular Field - home of the White Sox. Everyone went home happy this night as the home team defeated the Texas Rangers.

Chicago in the summer

In the Summer of 2008 we travelled to Chicago. I recommend Chicago to anyone - it's a specatacular city. To start you off for this weeks postings here's the view from the 108th floor of the famous Sears Tower - we're supposed to call it the Willis Tower now as the naming rights have changed but old habits die slowly here at Jim Dobie Photography. This view is to the north looking out over Lake Michigan. The John Hancock building is the tapered building at centre far right.

Selective Focus Lenses

Part of the charm of a Selective Focus Lens is the capability to make the viewer look exactly where you want; we tend to zero in on the areas of sharpest detail . Here's an example.

Selective Focus Lenses

Here's the third in the Selective Focus Lens series. These lenses have an articulating front element that allows for only part of the scened to be in focus. You can control how much or little of the scene is sharp and which part of the frame is in focus. They are so simple technically and very easy to use. I think the results have wonderful etherial look.

Selective Focus Lenses

Selective Focus Lenses are extremely versatile and allow for very creative expression. This week I'll offer some examples of photos taken with these little gems. This one features our young dog Parker dashing through the woods.
