Artwork Photography

This is a silver point drawing of the artists cello.  Silver point drawings are made using a silver rod across the drawing surface which has been prepared with a primer or gesso to give the surface enough texture to enable the silver to transfer.  The image is quite light making photography a challenge.

All images in this series made with the tri-pod mounted Canon 1Dx and my Canon 70-200mm lens set to F8 for maximum clarity and at full zoom to minimize reflections.  In each case the focus was done manually.  The artwork was placed on an easel.  I used my Elinchrom studio lights with umbrella modifiers.  The lights were place camera left and right and were triggered by Pocket Wizard transmitters.  Please check out the rest of the photos and Vaughan Hoy's other endeavours at http://vaughanhoystudio.com/
