I made this photo using the 17mm TSE lens on the Canon 5DII camera.  The 'T' stands for 'tilt' and I used this function on several of my photos of the Arctic Shores Pavilion.  This allows for maximum sharpness and infinite depth of field.  I wanted the foreground objects to be in perfect focus as well as the pavilion beyond; very hard to achieve without a TSE lens.

This is one of the coolest photography assignments I've had in a long time - the new Arctic Shores Pavilion at the Valley Zoo.  I'll feature several shots over the next few days.

Machinery used in road paving and surface maintenance is cared for in this new industrial building in Acheson just west of Edmonton.

The oily-looking black and white is better than the colour image I think and seems appropriate given the fact that most of the gear pictured is in itself rather oily.

Here's the last in the Heritage Buildings series, Holy Trinity Anglican Church is Strathcona.

Photographing this fine old building brought back memories for me as I photographed when going to NAIT in 1976.  I'd have liked to have been able to record this photo at a different time of year when the shadows were not so prominent on the brickwork.  But there was no time as the client needed the photo right away.  It is ever thus in the world of architectural photography.

This private residence is on the list of Heritage Buildings in Edmonton.  Designed by Charles W. Coppock in 1912, the City's Heritage Website reports:  'The artful simplicity, efficient use of space, extensive use of natural wood, and open eaves exemplify this Craftsman bungalow, although it remains distinct in its inclusion of a hipped rather than gabled roof'.

The house was the home of  Dr. Norman Terwillegar and his family. Dr. Terwillegar was held in very high regard by patients from all over.  In later years he operated his practice from this house on 125 Street.  Terwillegar Heights in Southwest Edmonton was named after him in the 1960s.

Next up in the Heritage projects series is the Garneau Theatre in Strathcona.  Now the home of Metro Cinema Edmonton, the theatre opened its doors in 1940.

My favourite personal memory of the Garneau was seeing 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' there.  There was an Asian guy there alone seated in front of our gang; I thought he was having some sort of seizure as he literally rolled about on the floor in the aisle he was laughing so hard.  To this day I think of him when I drive by the Garneau.
