Fall Details
There are a few options for the start point of our daily outing with the dogs; one of them is the top of a nearby ravine. One day there were a raft of crows pecking away at the grass; an unusual sight to be sure.
This photo was edited in Nik Silver Efex Pro to heighten the contrast between the crows and the grass; selecting the right filter effect renders the grass as almost white.

Family Portraits
Sometimes everything just comes together and it's funny how often the last photo of the shoot is the best one. Not to blow my own horn or anything but I think this portrait rocks.

Family Portraits
Here's a portrait of a young fellow that I have photographed three times now. Sepia tone conversion via Nik Silver Efex Pro.

Family Portraits
Here's a photo that I am very happy with as the lighting worked out perfectly.
Canon 5DII with Canon 24-105 f4 lens. Two Canon 580EX flashes off camera with umbrella modifiers triggered by Pocket Wizard transmitters.

Family Portraits
Seems like fall is preferred time for family portraits. I am always relieved when people contact me early about this! Here's a sample from a recent outing.

Air Photos
This view of the University of Alberta is from the southwest showing the river valley and downtown in the distance. That's the Lister Centre in the lower left, the Butterdome middle left and the longish buildings in the centre and centre right are the Edmonton Clinic North and Edmonton Clinic respectfully.

Air Photos
This row of car dealerships on the southern edge of town isn't that far from downtown as you can see in this view. It's about an 4 minute trip by helicopter - much longer of course by car.

Air Photos
Back in July I had an air photo assignment to undertake - a first for me. Here's a sample photo from the trip - Commonwealth Stadium and the adjoining North Central Recreation Facility.

Bianca
Here's the last in the Bianca series; thanks to Sheri and her fiance Ryan for their enthusiastism and patience. And to Bianca of course.

Bianca
I took this photo of Sheri while on our shoot to demonstrate the virtues of the iPhone Hipstamatic app; I quite like this shot.

Bianca
When I head off for a portrait session I usually have a few shots in mind that I want to get and after that it's just taking advantage of whatever comes along. This is a shot I had in my mind when we set off to photography Bianca. Thanks to the folks at the Hardware Grill for letting us occupy their loading dock for a while.

Bianca
The Vespa has a fair bit of get up and go. I had to work hard to hold her in the frame as she hurtled by.

Bianca
Every detail on the Vespa is quite perfect; here's a shot of the full instrument cluster ( how much information does one need really) as rendered by the lensbaby composer on the Canon 5DII.

Bianca
Vespa is Italian for 'wasp'. The manufacturer is Piaggio who were a maker of aircraft up until the end of the second world war when the factory was bombed to pieces.
On 23 April 1946, at 12 o'clock in the central office for inventions, models and makes of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce in Florence, Piaggio e C. S.p.A. took out a patent for a "motorcycle of a rational complexity of organs and elements combined with a frame with mudguards and a casing covering the whole mechanical part". And so the Vespa was born; remaining true to this pedantic description to the present day.
Here, Bianca seems to bask in a column of light against the jet black back drop of a building in a downtown alley.

Bianca
This is our friend and my wife's colleague, Sheri. A few weeks ago she told me she had a white Vespa called Bianca. We decided to do a photo shoot of the two of them and set aside a few hours one Saturday for this. We had a loose plan and off we went.
A few shots from this great project will follow over the next few days.

Recent Projects
This is newly constructed Capital Theatre at Fort Edmonton. It is faithful recreation of the original building that once stood in downtown Edmonton.
Black and white seemed appropriate for this shot that luckily includes one of the parks vintage vehicles. Black and White conversion executed with Nik Silver Efex pro software.

Recent Projects
This building in downtown Edmonton was given a face lift a few years ago.
I really like the way the reflection of the clouds in the building glazing seem to extend right into the sky in one apparent single swoop; an effect that is just plain luck as one could never plan for it.

Recent Projects
This new outdoor pool in Edmonton's river valley afforded all sorts of photographic prospects; a target rich environment I like to call it. This is one of my favourites from this very successful shoot.
